George Clooney Says ‘I Don’t Care’ If Trump Calls Me a ‘Fake Movie Actor’ Because ‘My Job Is Not to Please the President of the United States’

George Clooney isn’t bothered by Donald Trump criticizing him. While promoting his Broadway show Good Night and Good Luck on “CBS Mornings,” Clooney was asked about Trump calling him a “fake movie actor” on Truth Social.
Clooney simply responded, “I don’t care.” He explained that his job isn’t to make the president happy, but to speak honestly when he can. He knows not everyone will agree with him and accepts that criticism is part of sharing your views. He also pointed out that Elon Musk has criticized him too, but that everyone has the right to their opinion—just like he has the right to his.
Trump had taken shots at Clooney last summer after Clooney wrote an op-ed for The New York Times urging President Joe Biden to step down as the Democratic nominee. Clooney believed Biden had already done his part to protect democracy and that stepping aside could help the Democratic Party win in 2024, especially since Biden is getting older.
Trump reacted harshly on social media, calling Clooney a “fake movie actor” who never made a great film and accusing him of turning on Biden “like a rat.
He mocked Clooney for praising Biden and accused the president of destroying democracy, not saving it. Trump listed several criticisms, blaming Biden for inflation, the U.S. exit from Afghanistan, and immigration issues, then told Clooney to “get out of politics” and return to TV.
Clooney later appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where Kimmel read Trump’s post. Clooney responded with a quick comeback: “I will if he does.” The crowd cheered.
In another interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Clooney explained why he spoke out against Biden. He said he felt it was his duty because many Democrats weren’t being honest about the situation. Even though his opinion upset some people, Clooney said that’s just part of having freedom of speech. If you take a stand, you have to be ready for the backlash too.
He recalled that people protested his movies and criticized him when he spoke out against war 20 years ago, but he accepts that. He believes in everyone’s right to speak out, including those who disagree with him. Clooney said it’s only fair and part of what it means to truly believe in free speech.
