Donald Trump issues savage response to Elon Musk saying he’s ‘very disappointed’ in him
Just days after Elon Musk stepped down from his role in the Trump administration, President Donald Trump publicly criticized him for speaking out against a recent government bill. Their once-close relationship now appears to be unraveling.
Musk had been serving in a unique, part-time government role that allowed him to work up to 130 days a year. However, he resigned three days earlier than expected—just one day after expressing his disappointment with what Trump called his “big, beautiful bill.”
Speaking from the Oval Office on June 5, Trump expressed confusion and frustration over Musk’s criticism. He said he was surprised by Musk’s comments and claimed that Elon had previously praised both him and the bill during his time in the administration. Trump added, “I’d rather he criticize me than the bill, because the bill is incredible.” He also said that Musk understood the bill better than almost anyone else.
Musk quickly fired back on Twitter, calling Trump’s claims false. He wrote, “False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!”
This isn’t the first time Musk has spoken out against the bill. In a recent interview with CBS, he said he was disappointed by the massive increase in spending, which he believes adds to the national deficit and undercuts the work of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the agency he was leading. Musk joked that a bill can be “big” or “beautiful,” but not both.
The bill includes a large boost in defense spending, including Trump’s controversial plan to build a “Golden Dome” missile shield over the U.S. It also features trillions of dollars in tax cuts. But critics, including Musk, say the bill could increase government spending by around \$600 billion in the next year—contradicting the goals of Musk’s DOGE agency.
The fallout between the two high-profile figures signals deeper tensions behind the scenes, especially around growing concerns over national spending and government priorities.
