Donald Trump Snarls at CNN Strategist After Claiming He Was “Crying Like a Baby” and Exposing Who He Really Is
President Donald Trump became angry Monday morning and went after CNN commentator Van Jones in a long social media post. Trump claimed that years ago, Jones came to him begging for help to pass criminal justice reform, but now calls him a “dictator” on television.
Trump said Jones and a group of Black leaders had been trying for years to get criminal justice reform approved in Congress but could not get enough support from Republican senators. According to Trump, the effort was failing and there was almost no chance it would pass.
The president claimed Jones was very emotional during their meeting and described him as “crying like a baby” because he felt hopeless about the situation. Trump said he decided to help after listening to the group and quickly worked to gather the conservative votes needed to pass the reform bill.
Trump also used the moment to praise himself, saying the legislation was difficult to pass and claiming that even former President Barack Obama could not get it done during his time in office. Trump said nobody else could have achieved it the way he did.
But now, Trump says he feels betrayed because Jones regularly criticizes him on CNN and has reportedly called him a dictator. Trump complained that despite helping him in the past, Jones now attacks him every chance he gets.
The comments show how the relationship between the two men has changed over the years. During Trump’s first term, Jones once shocked many viewers by praising Trump after he honored the widow of a fallen Navy SEAL during a speech to Congress. Jones said at the time that Trump “became president” in that moment, and the comment quickly spread across social media and news channels.
Since then, however, Jones has become much more critical of Trump, especially over his behavior, political language, and leadership style. Trump’s latest post shows that he is still frustrated by critics who once praised him but later turned against him.
