Trump Administration Celebrates Sharp Downturn in Egg Prices Since Plan Was Announced

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins recently highlighted a significant drop in egg prices, attributing the decline to a five-step plan announced in late February 2025.

In a social media clip, Rollins noted that the average cost of a dozen eggs had decreased by **$1.85** since the plan’s introduction, providing some relief to consumers ahead of the Easter holiday, a period when egg prices typically peak.

Data from Trading Economics confirmed the sharp decline in egg prices, which had previously surged due to a bird flu outbreak that killed over 40 million egg-laying chickens, causing widespread shortages and rationing.

Rollins’ announcement came as a welcome development, especially after egg prices had skyrocketed in recent months, with California seeing a **70% increase** in just one month earlier this year.

The Agriculture Secretary had even suggested that Americans consider raising their own chickens to cope with the high costs. The timing of the price drop was particularly favorable for the Trump administration, which has been implementing popular policies such as securing the southern border, combating DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives, and addressing government inefficiencies through the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk.

Democrats, who had previously criticized the administration over soaring egg prices, found themselves on the defensive as prices began to fall. Reports indicated that some Democrats had even considered waving empty egg cartons during Trump’s joint address to Congress as a form of protest.

However, the decline in egg prices undermined their narrative, exposing what critics called the “emptiness” of their rhetoric. Critics also pointed out that Democrats had remained largely silent when egg prices surged under President Joe Biden.

The drop in egg prices, whether directly tied to Rollins’ plan or not, has shifted the focus away from Democratic criticisms and highlighted the administration’s efforts to address economic challenges. As the Trump administration continues to roll out popular initiatives, Democrats are struggling to mount a coherent response, leaving them increasingly sidelined in the ongoing political discourse.
