Biggest ‘scandal of all time’ could lurk in uncorroborated Trump accusation: analyst

Donald Trump is once again facing renewed public attention over his past connection to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender whose name has come up repeatedly in high-profile investigations. As the Epstein scandal continues to make headlines, some older allegations tied to Trump are being brought back into the spotlight — particularly one serious accusation made years ago by a woman under the pseudonym “Katie Johnson.”

Journalist Michael Tomasky, writing for *The New Republic*, noted that while Trump seems confused and frustrated about why he’s not more popular — especially since he believes he’s kept many of his promises — the reality is that many people strongly dislike both his policies and his personal conduct. Tomasky doesn’t mince words, calling Trump a “sleazeball,” and points to a wide range of issues that could explain the president’s low approval rating, including how he and his family have profited from his time in office.

But it’s the Epstein connection, Tomasky argues, that could be particularly damaging. Trump and Epstein were known to have socialized in the past. Although nothing has been proven in court linking Trump directly to Epstein’s crimes, there are public accusations — one of the most serious being the lawsuit filed by “Katie Johnson,” who claimed she was raped by Trump when she was 13 years old at an Epstein-hosted event in the 1990s. The lawsuit was dropped and the woman disappeared from public view, but as Epstein’s name continues to resurface, so does hers.

Tomasky cautions that we can’t assume guilt, especially when claims remain unverified. However, he suggests that if even part of Johnson’s story is ever confirmed, it would likely become one of the most explosive political scandals in U.S. history.

For now, the Department of Justice continues to face scrutiny over Epstein-related matters, and while no direct legal action has been taken against Trump regarding these specific claims, the issue is far from settled — and it could return with more weight if new evidence ever emerges.
