Donald Trump ‘authorizing Full Force, if necessary’ as military deploys to another US city

Donald Trump went to a meeting at the United Nations in New York. Soon after, he made an announcement saying that he would order Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to send as many troops as needed to Portland, Oregon.

He said the troops would protect the city, which he described as being destroyed by violence, and also to guard Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) buildings that he claimed were under attack by Antifa and other groups he called domestic terrorists.

Trump explained on his social media site, Truth Social, that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had asked for help. He said he was giving permission to use “full force” if necessary.

This announcement happened just as officials in Portland were threatening to remove ICE from one of its local facilities, saying the agency had broken permit rules.

The day before, Portland leaders held a press conference after they noticed many more federal agents suddenly showing up in the city. Mayor Keith Wilson said the city never asked for these agents and accused the federal government of making the situation worse.

He added that if Washington, D.C. wasn’t there to actually help, then it should stay out of the way. Wilson claimed Trump was only sending agents to stir up trouble and push Portland toward violence. He warned people not to fall into what he saw as the president’s plan, calling Trump’s actions authoritarian.
