Donald Trump has come under criticism online after praising his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., during a speech at the Future Investment Initiative Institute summit on March 27.
Trump has five children. He had Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Eric Trump with his first wife Ivana Trump. He later had Tiffany Trump with Marla Maples, and his youngest son Barron Trump with Melania Trump.
During the speech, Trump focused heavily on Donald Trump Jr., calling him a great son and saying he has the “best genes” of anyone he has ever known. He repeated that he strongly believes in genetics and praised his son several times, even mentioning his fiancée Bettina.
However, many people online reacted negatively because he did not mention his other children at all. Some felt it looked like he was ignoring them, especially Barron, which led to comments criticizing him and calling the moment embarrassing.
In the same speech, Trump also made a strange slip while talking about tensions with Iran. He accidentally referred to the Strait of Hormuz as the “Strait of Trump” before correcting himself. He later joked that the media would claim it was a mistake, adding that he does not usually make mistakes.
Trump has often been known for wanting his name attached to major things. This was highlighted again when the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts was reportedly renamed the Trump-Kennedy Center after a board decision, with officials saying it was due to his efforts in helping the building.
