Donald Trump recently shared a funny and surprising moment about his youngest son, Barron, during a high-profile dinner at the White House. The dinner was held in honor of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the guest list was full of some of the most powerful people in business and sports. Big names like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook, and FIFA President Gianni Infantino were all there. But the person who truly made the room buzz was football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Barron has always loved football, and people already know he admires Ronaldo. Even his older brother Eric once said that Barron wanted to play soccer seriously, but his height — now around 6 feet 9 inches — made it difficult for him to pursue the sport the way he once hoped.
When Ronaldo walked into the dinner, Barron finally got his chance to meet the player he had admired for years. Trump said that Barron was “stunned” when he came face-to-face with Ronaldo. Trump joked that after introducing his son to Ronaldo, Barron “respects his father a little bit more now,” because he was the one who made the introduction. People in the room laughed and clapped at the moment.
Ronaldo attended the event dressed in a classic black suit and bow tie. Although he now plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, he is still considered one of the greatest footballers of all time. His move to the Saudi league was a major headline around the world. Even though he hasn’t yet won a trophy with Al-Nassr, he remains a huge global star. Before that, he played for some of the biggest clubs in history: Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Juventus. During his time at Juventus, he became the only player ever to score 100 goals for four different teams. But he may miss the next FIFA World Cup due to a red card he received in a match against Ireland.
The dinner itself also had a deeper political backdrop. This was the Crown Prince’s first visit to the U.S. since the 2018 killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a case that created worldwide controversy. American intelligence agencies believe the Crown Prince ordered the killing, although he continues to deny it. Trump, during the dinner, defended him and said the Crown Prince “knew nothing about it.” Trump added that the U.S. should not embarrass its guests, no matter how complicated the situation is.
As for Barron, his love for football has been visible for years. When he was 11, he joined the D.C. United Academy U-12 team as a midfielder. He also played for the Arlington Soccer Association’s U-14 team in Virginia. In 2019, he was seen at the MetLife Stadium watching a match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid — another sign of how much he loves the sport.
For Barron, meeting Ronaldo wasn’t just a quick handshake — it was a moment he will probably never forget. And for Trump, it became a proud father moment he couldn’t wait to talk about.
