Donald Trump went on a long and forceful online rant where he explained how he plans to push his agenda through Congress without needing support from Democrats.
In his message, he made it clear that he wants Republican lawmakers to move quickly and follow a strict plan. He focused on removing something called the Senate filibuster, which is a rule that usually requires at least 60 votes in the Senate to pass major laws. Without that rule, a simple majority could pass bills more easily.
Trump argued that getting rid of the filibuster would allow Republicans to pass a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security much faster. Right now, that department has been struggling with funding issues, mainly because of disagreements over money for immigration-related agencies like border control and enforcement.
He said the goal is to make sure agencies like ICE and Border Patrol are fully funded again. According to him, these agencies are important for national security and protecting the country’s borders. He also accused Democrats of trying to block or delay funding, saying they are putting families and security at risk.
Trump also made it clear that he does not want to rely on Democratic votes at all. He described his plan as a way to move forward without needing their support, working closely with Republican leaders in Congress to get it done quickly.
At the same time, there are real effects being felt because of the funding issues. For example, the Transportation Security Administration, which handles airport security, has been affected. Many airports have been dealing with staff shortages, leading to delays and frustration for travelers.
There was an earlier proposal to fund most parts of the department, including airport security, while leaving out some immigration agencies. But Trump rejected that plan because it did not include full funding for border and immigration enforcement.
