Elon Musk announces new political party and explains how it will ‘give America back freedom’ amid Trump feud

Elon Musk has just announced that he’s starting a brand-new political party, saying it’s time to give Americans their freedom back. This move comes after a falling-out with Donald Trump, who once considered Musk a key part of his administration.
Earlier this year, after Trump returned to the White House in January, he appointed Musk to lead a new department called the Department of Government Efficiency—also known by its joke-like acronym, DOGE. Musk stayed in that role until late May, but things between the two turned bad not long after.
The main issue between them seems to be a bill Trump pushed called the “Big Beautiful Bill.” Musk strongly criticized it, calling it a disaster. Trump pushed back, saying he was disappointed in Musk and claiming Musk had fully supported the bill while still in office.
The situation escalated when Musk posted (and later deleted) tweets suggesting Trump’s name appears in the Jeffrey Epstein files. The White House responded by calling Musk’s behavior “unfortunate.”
Since then, Musk has continued speaking out against Trump’s leadership. Now, he’s trying to take things a step further by launching a new political party. On July 5, Musk introduced the **America Party**, which he says will break away from the traditional two-party system of Republicans and Democrats. He described current U.S. politics as broken, saying Americans are stuck in a system full of waste and corruption.
Musk pointed to a recent Twitter poll where a large number of people said they wanted a new party. He told his followers: “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!”
At the moment, it’s not clear whether the America Party has been officially registered with U.S. election officials, and Musk can’t run for president himself since he was born outside the U.S. So far, no one has been announced as the party’s candidate.
Meanwhile, Trump just scored a win with his controversial bill, which narrowly passed in the House of Representatives. It includes tax cuts he promised during his 2024 campaign, but also slashes funding for health care and food safety programs. Experts warn the bill could leave millions without Medicaid and add trillions to the national debt over the next decade.
Musk’s party seems aimed at offering an alternative to what he sees as a broken system—one that, in his view, fails regular Americans. Whether the America Party gains real momentum remains to be seen, but it’s clear that Musk is no longer just a tech mogul on the sidelines. He’s stepping directly into the political ring.
