Everyone’s saying the same thing after clip of Elon Musk resurfaces claiming we’re ‘summoning the demon’ with AI

A video of Elon Musk from 2015 has resurfaced and is now going viral again. In the clip, he talks about artificial intelligence and calls it a “demon,” warning people about the dangers it could bring. Back then, AI was still pretty basic. We had Siri and other digital assistants that could answer simple questions or help us identify songs, but nothing like what we see today.
Fast forward to 2025, and AI has exploded in growth. Now it powers everything from self-driving cars and customer service bots to entire platforms like ChatGPT. Some people are even forming emotional connections with AI programs. The speed at which AI has grown is both impressive and a little scary, especially when you remember that Musk saw it coming a decade ago.
In that old clip, Musk spoke at MIT and said using AI is like “summoning the demon.” He compared it to ancient stories where someone would draw a pentagram, use holy water, and think they could control a demon—but in the end, the demon takes over. At the time, some people laughed, thinking he was exaggerating. But looking back now, many are realizing he was serious—and maybe even right.
Today, Musk is at the forefront of AI development. His companies, like Tesla and Neuralink, are creating advanced technologies including humanoid robots and brain-computer interfaces. He also started xAI, a new artificial intelligence company that just raised \$10 billion, according to investment bank Morgan Stanley. This money will help build one of the biggest AI data centers in the world and expand xAI’s main platform called Grok.
The irony, as many online are pointing out, is that the same man who warned us about AI is now helping to build it faster than almost anyone else. People watching the old clip now say things like, “He wasn’t joking,” and, “Why didn’t we listen?” Some even say it’s not funny at all because it feels like he was giving a real warning.
Even though Musk once called AI a “demon,” he doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Instead, he’s investing more into it than ever. Whether he still believes it’s dangerous or thinks he can control it—like the man with the pentagram and holy water—it’s clear AI is here to stay, and Musk is leading the charge. Let’s just hope it doesn’t spiral out of control.
