Ex-GOP strategist says Donald Trump speech was a ‘deep scream of outright panic’ from president

According to a political analyst, Donald Trump’s old MAGA magic seems to have completely disappeared, and his recent address to the nation only made that clearer. Rick Wilson, a former Republican strategist, said the speech was so unhinged that it bordered on madness. In his view, Trump no longer looks like a confident political leader but like someone who has lost control and is struggling to hold on to even his most loyal supporters.
Wilson wrote that instead of sounding strong or inspiring, Trump came across as a desperate, angry old man ranting without direction. He described the speech as a total failure from start to finish, full of lies and frantic energy, and unable to hide the damage Trump has caused. Wilson argued that Trump tried to explain away the economic problems hurting ordinary Americans, especially those who support him, but failed badly. The tariff war, which Trump once bragged about, has backfired, hurting jobs, raising prices, and damaging the very people who believed in him. No amount of shouting or exaggeration could cover that up.
In Wilson’s words, the spell Trump used to cast over crowds is gone. The confidence, the swagger, and the emotional grip he once had on his base have faded. What remains, he said, is a man desperately trying to recreate past glory, hoping the old tricks will work one more time. But they didn’t. The speech fell flat, and the audience was not convinced.
After the address ended, Wilson posted a reaction video where he sounded almost stunned by what he had just watched. He called the entire speech a complete mess and said it felt less like a planned address and more like a public meltdown. To Wilson, it looked like Trump was panicking in real time. He said Trump seemed lost, unable to figure out how to fix the economic damage he caused or how to recover from his falling popularity.
Wilson pointed out that Trump’s approval rating has dropped to around 38 percent, which he described as an absolute disaster for a sitting president. He said Trump knows this and feels trapped by it. During the short speech, Trump tried to throw out every familiar talking point from previous years, hoping something would stick. But none of it worked. Not one argument landed, and not one promise sounded believable.
Others watching the speech were equally shocked. Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel openly mocked Trump, calling him unhinged and suggesting that deep down, Trump knows the truth about how people see him. Kimmel joked that Trump understands no one genuinely respects him anymore, and that most people around him are only there because they want something from him.
Kimmel went further, saying Trump knows the world is laughing at him and that his public image is falling apart. He painted Trump as someone so insecure that he needs his own insults and achievements turned into physical trophies just to feel important. Kimmel ended his remarks by sarcastically suggesting that Trump needs to be stopped before he causes even more damage, not just to himself but to the country as a whole.
Overall, the reaction to Trump’s speech was harsh and widespread. Instead of calming fears or restoring confidence, it deepened concerns that he is overwhelmed, out of ideas, and increasingly disconnected from reality. What was meant to be a show of strength ended up looking like a moment of weakness, leaving critics convinced that Trump’s political grip is slipping fast.
