On Presidents Day 2026, former President George W. Bush shared a message that many people believe was quietly aimed at President Donald Trump, even though he did not mention him by name.
Bush’s message was part of a history project called “In Pursuit.” The project asks leaders to reflect on American values as the country approaches 250 years since the Declaration of Independence.
In his message, Bush focused on George Washington. He reminded people that Washington chose to step down after two terms, even though he could have stayed in power. By leaving office willingly, Washington showed that America would not be ruled by one person for life. He helped set the example of peaceful transfer of power.
Bush praised Washington for being humble and for putting the country first. He said good leadership requires self-control and respect for the Constitution. He stressed that the presidency is about serving the nation, not about personal ambition.
Many people think Bush’s message connects to today’s political situation. President Donald Trump has challenged past election results and has spoken about staying in power longer than usual. Even though Bush did not mention Trump, some believe his words were meant as a reminder of how leaders should behave.
Bush did not attack anyone directly. He did not use strong language or insults. Instead, he used history to make his point. He chose to talk about values like respect, responsibility, and democracy.
He also did not go on television to explain his message. He simply published the essay and let people read it for themselves.

There is no denying things are not well when George W. Bush is the voice of reason. Blimey
This from the sorry SOB that put us in Iraq with his lies. The Bush mob was as bad as Biden.
Way to go, and with such class.
Hats off to President Bush
He’s a class act.
Bush has earned my eternal contempt for being silent all these years. Maybe he’s senile. But this crisis demands & requires every influential voice. Until I see a persuasive reason why he’s dodged his responsibility, I hold him accountable for this never ending nightmare.
Doesn’t every president make his or her ambition to be president?? I believe it’s Democrats who use foul, disgusting language at every opportunity last I checked. President Bush still holds a grudge that his brother was crushed by President Trump in the primaries. Get over it George!!!
