“He Is Incompetent” – Trump Rants Against California Governor Who Just Threatened to ‘Fight Fire With Fire’ in Blistering Ultimatum (Video)

California Governor Gavin Newsom has sparked a political fight with former President Donald Trump after warning that he would “fight fire with fire” when it comes to how congressional voting maps are drawn.

In a strongly worded letter to Trump, Newsom said that if Trump continued pushing for Republican-led states to use extreme gerrymandering to gain more congressional seats, California — and possibly other Democrat-led states — would respond by doing the same in their own states.

On Monday, during a White House press briefing, Trump lashed out at Newsom in his usual style, using insults and dismissive language. “Gavin Newsom doesn’t have the skills. His talk sounds good, but that’s all it is. He’s incompetent,” Trump shouted, clearly furious.

This clash comes just two weeks after Trump reportedly told Texas Governor Greg Abbott to secure five additional congressional seats for Republicans. This move is seen as an effort to keep the Republican Party’s slim control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections.

To make this happen, Abbott pushed state lawmakers to redraw voting district boundaries — something that normally only happens every ten years after the U.S. Census. This mid-decade redistricting, aimed at removing five Democratic-held seats and giving them to Republicans, is considered highly unusual.

But Texas Democrats took dramatic action to block the plan. Last week, they left the state and traveled to Illinois and other Democratic-leaning states. By leaving, they denied the Texas legislature the minimum number of lawmakers needed to hold a vote, temporarily halting the redistricting process.

In his letter to Trump, Newsom wrote that California “cannot stand idly by” while Republican-led states follow Trump’s orders to create congressional maps designed to give Republicans an advantage.

“If you don’t stop, I will lead an effort to redraw California’s maps to cancel out what you’re doing in red states,” Newsom warned. “If those states end their redistricting plans, we will do the same. That would be better for American democracy.”

Newsom accused Trump of trying to “rig” the upcoming elections and called the plan “hyper-partisan.” He said Trump’s actions could destabilize the country’s democratic system and made it clear that California has the power to offset any gains Trump hopes to make.

“You are playing with fire,” Newsom wrote, “risking the stability of our democracy by trying to keep power before a single vote is cast in 2026. This is an attack on the heart of American democracy.”

Newsom also took his warning public. On X (formerly Twitter), he posted:
“Donald Trump: Tell Greg Abbott to stop. You are not ‘entitled’ to five congressional seats. If you don’t rein in your allies, California will act fast. We will go to the ballot. We will wipe out whatever gains you make. We will not stand by while you burn democracy to the ground.”

The post immediately went viral, with political opinions split along party lines. Supporters of Trump — particularly MAGA loyalists — attacked Newsom and defended Trump’s gerrymandering push. Trump’s critics, on the other hand, saw his actions as an attempt to cheat in the 2026 elections by reshaping districts to favor Republicans before voting even begins.
