‘He’s deteriorating’ Trump’s doctors ‘concerned for his mental health’

A well-known doctor says there are two serious reasons to be concerned about President Donald Trump’s health, especially when it comes to his mental sharpness. Recently, worries about Trump’s health have started circulating again after the doctor suggested the president may be showing signs of cognitive decline.

Late last year, Trump proudly posted on Truth Social that he had “aced” his third cognitive test. He was referring to the MoCA test, which is designed to check mental abilities such as memory, focus, language skills, problem-solving, and visual understanding. Trump first took this test in 2018 and scored a perfect 30 out of 30.

He took it again in April 2025 and once more in October 2025, each time claiming a perfect score. Trump and his medical team insist that these results prove he is mentally fit.

However, Dr. John Gartner, speaking to journalist Joanna Coles from The Daily Beast, said the real concern is not the scores themselves but how often Trump has taken the test. According to Dr. Gartner, there are two red flags. The first is that Trump has taken the MoCA multiple times, and the second is that he has reportedly taken several other cognitive tests as well.

Dr. Gartner explained that people are not usually given the MoCA test over and over unless doctors are keeping an eye on possible dementia or mental decline. He said the test might be used once as part of a very thorough checkup for an older person, but doctors would not normally repeat it six months later unless they had noticed a potential problem and wanted to monitor whether it was getting worse.

Because Trump publicly announced that he had taken the test again after such a short period, Dr. Gartner believes this suggests Trump’s doctors have concerns about his mental condition and feel the need to closely track it over time. Dr. Gartner also pointed out that Trump mentioned taking a “series” of cognitive tests, which he says adds to the concern.

Dr. Gartner went further, saying Trump lacks strong control or guidance from those around him and that he does not appear to have strong moral limits on his behavior.

Combined with what he describes as cognitive confusion, Dr. Gartner believes Trump could make decisions that are not only reckless but sometimes don’t even make sense. He also claimed that, in his view, it is obvious even to non-professionals that Trump is declining both mentally and physically.

Trump has repeatedly and forcefully denied any suggestion that his health is failing. He has released the results of medical exams and an MRI, claiming doctors told him the results were as good as they had ever seen.

After The New York Times published an article examining his health, Trump responded angrily online. He accused the newspaper and other outlets of spreading fake information to damage and insult him, even calling their reporting “seditious” and possibly “treasonous.”

Despite these denials, the debate over Trump’s mental and physical health continues, with supporters and critics sharply divided over what the repeated testing really means.
