Jaw-dropping polls deliver more bad news to Donald Trump

Two new opinion polls have brought very difficult news for President Donald Trump. The results show that many Americans are unhappy with how his administration handled recent immigration enforcement operations in Minneapolis, especially after two U.S. citizens were killed during those actions.

According to the surveys, about 60 percent of Americans say they either somewhat disagree or strongly disagree with the deportation efforts carried out in the city.

That means more than half the country is not comfortable with what happened. These polls were taken between late January and early February, shortly after Renee Good and Alex Pretti lost their lives during immigration operations. Their deaths shocked many people and led to protests, public anger, and serious questions about how the operations were planned and executed.

Independent voters, who do not strongly support either political party, were especially critical. This group is very important in elections because they often decide close races. Republicans were hoping to gain more support from independents before the 2026 midterm elections, but these numbers suggest that could be harder now.

About 80 percent of independents said the administration’s actions in the Twin Cities area “went too far.” That is a very high number. Nearly all Democrats around 98 percent also said the same thing, showing overwhelming opposition from that side.

Even though independents in Minnesota were slightly more supportive of Trump compared to independents nationwide, the support was still limited. Only about four out of ten independents in the state said they approve of the job he is doing as president.

Around the same number said they approve of how he is handling immigration and border security. While that is about 10 percentage points higher than among independents across the country, it still shows that a majority are either unsure or unhappy.

These polls were released at a time when the administration’s immigration policies are facing growing criticism. Reports have raised concerns that immigration officials may not have been completely honest about how they monitored or handled situations involving U.S. citizens.

The deaths of Good and Pretti have increased calls for accountability. Some critics are demanding that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller step down or be removed from their positions.

Overall, the issue has become a serious political problem. It is not just about immigration anymore. It is now about trust, transparency, and whether the government went too far. With elections coming up, public opinion like this could have a real impact on the political landscape in the months ahead.
