Jeffrey Epstein Said Trump Doesn’t Have ‘One Decent Cell In His Body’ And Called Him ‘Borderline Insane,’ Newly Released Emails Show

Recently released emails from the Justice Department show that Jeffrey Epstein spoke very harshly about Donald Trump, even though the two had once been close friends.
In the messages, Epstein described Trump as someone who didn’t have “one decent cell in his body” and said he believed Trump was “borderline insane.” He also called him “dangerous,” saying that although he had met many bad people in his life, he thought none were as bad as Trump.
These comments came up in email exchanges between Epstein and former Treasury Secretary and former Harvard University president Larry Summers. Trump was often a topic in their conversations. In a February 2017 exchange, Epstein repeated his negative view of Trump and warned Summers that he believed Trump posed a real risk.
Years later, in November 2025, Summers announced that he would be stepping back from his public appearances and outside commitments. This decision followed the leak of emails that showed he had maintained a friendly relationship with Epstein for many years.
According to The Harvard Crimson, emails from November 2018 and July 2019 revealed that Summers had asked Epstein for advice about a personal matter.
At the time, Summers was trying to start a romantic relationship with a woman he described as a mentee. The emails showed that Epstein offered encouragement and advice, even referring to himself in one message as Summers’ “wingman.”
What made the situation more troubling to many people was that Summers had continued communicating with Epstein for over ten years after Epstein had pleaded guilty in 2008 to charges related to soliciting prostitution from a minor.
In response to the controversy, Summers released a statement saying he was deeply ashamed of his actions and understood the harm they caused.
He said he took full responsibility for the mistake of staying in contact with Epstein. While he would continue teaching, he explained that stepping back from public roles was part of his effort to rebuild trust and repair relationships with those close to him.
