Man bought abandoned house on a remote island ‘over the phone’ and everyone is pointing out the same wild thing

A Canadian YouTuber named Matty Clarke decided to take on a huge challenge—he bought an old, abandoned house on a remote island, without even seeing it in person. He made the deal over the phone, sealed with just a few handshakes. The place is located in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland, far from towns, roads, or even electricity. It’s completely cut off from the rest of the world.

The house was in terrible shape. When Clarke first showed it on video, viewers saw just how rough it was. The roof leaked, the floors were wet and damaged, the bed was covered in mold, and the paint was peeling everywhere. It wasn’t just a fixer-upper—it looked like a total nightmare. Many people in the comments were shocked that anyone would even consider buying it, let alone try to live there.

Despite all that, Clarke remained incredibly positive. He said he’d spent the last six months working on it and ran into all sorts of problems—from bad weather to unexpected repairs—but was determined to turn the broken-down building into a real home. In his own words, it was just him, the sea, and the challenge.

Before he even started renovating the upstairs, he had to reinforce the ceiling because it was starting to cave in. He also planned to build a new wall in the kitchen to keep the ceiling from sagging more. On top of that, he wanted to strip back the old flooring, sand down the wooden floorboards, and make them look beautiful again.

One of the biggest problems was the leaky roof. Water had been coming in and making the whole cabin smell, not to mention ruining parts of the inside. While he couldn’t fully fix the roof yet, he put a tarp over it to stop any more water from getting in.

Slowly but surely, the place started to improve. The kitchen, which was a disaster at first, began to look much better after he cleaned and worked on it. Clarke stayed upbeat through all of it. He found joy even in the difficult parts and saw potential where most people just saw a mess.

Many viewers were inspired by his attitude. Some said they liked fixing things themselves, but they would never dare take on a house like that. Others praised his energy, saying he turned negative things into something exciting. Comments poured in about how refreshing and fun it was to watch someone so optimistic.

One person wrote that he seemed to love the house, even though it looked like it was made of cardboard. Another said it was amazing to see someone treat a disaster like it was a dream come true. Even those who said they’d never try such a project themselves admitted they enjoyed watching his progress and admired his passion.

Over time, Clarke showed how much he had already improved the house, and it was clear that he was just getting started. The project that looked hopeless at first was starting to show real signs of becoming a cozy, livable home—all thanks to his determination, hard work, and positive mindset.
