Melania claims she and Putin have ‘open channel of communication’ for one specific reason amid tension with Trump

Melania Trump spoke from the White House about her communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin, explaining that they have kept an open line of contact for a specific humanitarian reason — to help children affected by the war between Russia and Ukraine.

In her speech, Melania said that while tensions between her husband, former President Donald Trump, and Putin remain high, her communication with the Russian leader has focused only on the safety and reunification of children separated by the conflict.

She explained that she first reached out to Putin in August of last year through a letter, asking for help and information about Ukrainian children who had been taken into Russia during the war. According to Melania, Putin responded personally, showing a willingness to work with her on this issue. This exchange led to what she called an “open channel of communication” between her and the Russian president.

Melania shared that both sides have participated in several private meetings and phone calls over the past few months. She said these talks were “in good faith” and aimed only at helping families affected by the war. “We have agreed to cooperate for the benefit of all people involved in this conflict,” she said, emphasizing that her representative has been in contact with Putin’s team to make sure children are safely returned to their families in Ukraine.

As a result of this ongoing communication, Melania announced that eight children who had been living in “fear and uncertainty” were reunited with their families within the last 24 hours. She praised Russia for providing detailed information about the children and their current situations, saying this cooperation made the reunifications possible.

“The process is not over,” she said. “We are continuing to work toward bringing more children home. I believe peace can start with our children. When we protect them, we take the first step toward ending this war.”

Her remarks came shortly after Russia issued a new warning to the world, including the United States, about possible nuclear testing. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told reporters that Moscow would respond “immediately” if any country decided to resume nuclear tests, and he specifically mentioned Washington.

Ryabkov also commented that recent peace efforts between Russia and Ukraine had slowed down after Putin’s meeting with Donald Trump in Alaska in August. He blamed European governments for what he called “destructive actions” that weakened earlier progress toward a peace agreement.

Melania’s statement stood out because it focused on compassion and humanitarian work, showing an attempt to find common ground even as political and military tensions between nations remain extremely high.
