The video now spreading on X shows a clearer and more disturbing view of the moments leading up to the death of 37-year-old Alex Jeffrey Pretti, who was shot multiple times by a federal agent.
The footage captures a tense and chaotic scene that unfolded just seconds before the shooting, as Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers clashed with protesters who were gathered to oppose an ICE deportation operation in the city.
In the video, several protesters can be seen blowing whistles loudly, a common protest tactic meant to disrupt and show resistance to ICE activity.
The situation quickly escalates. ICE officers begin forcefully pushing demonstrators down onto the sidewalk, trying to clear the area. During this confrontation, one officer is seen spraying pepper spray directly into Pretti’s face at very close range, causing immediate distress.
Pretti then ends up on the ground as multiple officers surround him. The scene appears frantic and confused, with agents shouting and moving quickly. Moments later, one officer suddenly yells “gun,” which visibly alarms the other agents nearby. Almost instantly, one ICE agent pulls out his firearm. A single gunshot is heard, followed by a rapid series of shots.
Nearly ten more shots ring out as Pretti lies motionless on the ground, clearly no longer responding. The sound of the gunfire shocks those watching.
A woman recording the incident can be heard screaming in disbelief, shouting, “What did you just do?” as the reality of what has happened sets in. A federal officer then appears to push her away from the scene, preventing her from getting closer as agents take control of the area.
The footage has intensified public anger and raised serious questions about the use of force, especially given that Pretti was a legal U.S. citizen.
Many viewers say the video shows how quickly a protest situation spiraled into deadly violence, leaving a man dead in a matter of seconds and sparking renewed debate over ICE tactics, accountability, and the handling of civilian protests.
