A video of former Vice President Kamala Harris warning about Donald Trump’s intentions with the military is gaining attention again, especially after Trump sent National Guard troops and Marines into Los Angeles to stop protests.
These protests broke out after recent ICE raids and have continued for days near the federal building downtown.
As the situation escalated, Trump ordered arrests and brought in thousands of military personnel, including 700 Marines and 2,000 National Guard troops, without getting approval from California Governor Gavin Newsom. That move has sparked a legal fight, with Newsom preparing to take the Trump administration to court.
The clip of Harris is from late October 2024, shortly before the election, and it’s being widely shared again now. In it, she accuses Trump of wanting total control over the military not to protect the country, but to serve his own interests. She recalls a conversation with John Kelly, Trump’s former chief of staff and a retired four-star general, who reportedly told her that Trump once said he wanted generals like those Adolf Hitler had—people who would follow his orders without question.
In the speech, Harris warned that Trump doesn’t want a military that follows the Constitution. She said he wants one that is loyal to him personally, even if it means breaking the law or violating constitutional rights. She expressed concern that Trump would use the military to target U.S. citizens, calling anyone who disagreed with him “the enemy from within,” including judges, journalists, and election officials.
She emphasized how dangerous it was for a sitting or future president to speak admiringly of Hitler’s military and to view Americans who oppose him as enemies. Harris described Trump as “increasingly unhinged and unstable” and warned that in a second term, the few people who had previously held him back would be gone. According to her, Trump would then be free to act without limits.
Her message ended with a clear warning: Trump wants unchecked power. At the time, her speech was seen as an intense critique, but now, with National Guard forces on the streets of L.A. and legal challenges being filed over Trump’s actions, many are saying her prediction is starting to come true.
