People point out chilling detail after Trump visits ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ migrant centre

Donald Trump visited a new immigration facility in Florida this week, and it’s already sparking a lot of backlash. The center is being called “Alligator Alcatraz” because it’s built on an old airstrip deep in the Florida Everglades, surrounded by swamps full of alligators and snakes. Trump toured the facility on Tuesday, and many people online are disturbed by what they saw in the photos and videos of the visit.

Since starting his second term as President in January, Trump has focused heavily on cracking down on illegal immigration. This new facility is part of that plan. He said he hopes to build more centers like it across the country. According to him, the Florida center will soon house what he described as the most dangerous migrants, and he made it clear that deportation will be the only way out for those held there.

Florida’s Attorney General James Uthmeier even joked about the location, saying they didn’t need to spend much money securing the area because if someone tries to escape, they’ll have to deal with the alligators and pythons.

Trump himself made a grim joke before his tour, saying that if migrants manage to escape, they’d need to learn how to run away from an alligator. He even demonstrated how to run in a zigzag, claiming it would slightly increase their chances of survival.

Online, people are reacting with shock and anger. Some compared the center to a modern-day concentration camp. One person said the images from Trump’s tour will likely be shown in history classes in the future as an example of something terrible. Others criticized the idea that public money is being used to fund what they see as prison camps for migrants.

The facility is expected to hold up to 3,000 people, with some arrivals starting as soon as July 2. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, confirmed those numbers. Critics are also concerned about the impact this project could have on the Everglades, a fragile and important ecosystem. But Trump brushed those worries off, saying the center doesn’t harm the environment and actually improves it.

Despite all the controversy, Trump seems determined to keep building more facilities like this in other states, believing it’s the best way to control immigration.
