Putin blasts Nobel Peace Prize credibility after Donald Trump’s loss claiming president on cusp of ‘historic’ achievement

Donald Trump has spoken out after not winning the Nobel Peace Prize, and Russian President Vladimir Putin has come to his defense.

Trump had made it clear that he wanted to win the prize this year, but instead, it went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. Machado has been a key figure in the fight for democracy in Venezuela, and her work was recognized by the Nobel Committee.

After the announcement, many of Trump’s supporters were disappointed, but what surprised people most was Putin publicly siding with Trump. Speaking on October 10, Putin praised Trump for his efforts to solve major global problems. He said Trump had worked hard to bring peace and stability to regions that have faced decades of conflict. Putin especially pointed to Trump’s attempts to address the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, saying that if Trump succeeded in his goals, it would be “a historic event.”

However, Putin also criticized the Nobel Peace Prize, claiming that it had “lost its credibility.” He said he wasn’t sure whether the current U.S. president deserved the award but argued that Trump’s work toward peace was significant and worthy of recognition.

Trump has not directly responded to Putin’s remarks, but he did make a statement about losing the award. Speaking from the White House, Trump said that María Corina Machado herself had called him after the announcement. According to Trump, she told him she was accepting the prize in his honor, saying he truly deserved it. Trump added that it was “a really nice thing to do,” joking that he didn’t tell her to hand the award over to him.

While Trump’s comments have drawn mixed reactions online, Machado later posted a message on social media mentioning Trump. She thanked him and the United States for their continued support of Venezuela’s fight for freedom. Machado said the award was not just hers but a recognition of all Venezuelans who are struggling for democracy. She dedicated the prize to the people of Venezuela and to Trump for what she called his “decisive support” in their cause.
