Russia offers Elon Musk political asylum as relationship with President Trump deteriorates
Elon Musk and Donald Trump used to be close, but their friendship suddenly fell apart on Thursday after they argued online in front of millions.
It started when Musk criticized a huge government spending bill that Trump supported, calling it a terrible and wasteful decision. In response, Trump got angry and threatened to cancel the government contracts and financial support Musk’s companies rely on.
Musk had been one of Trump’s top advisors and had even donated over \$250 million to support his election campaign. But just a few days after Trump held a farewell event for Musk, where he gave him a symbolic golden key and thanked him for his work, everything changed. Musk went public with his frustration, saying that Trump broke his promise to reduce government spending. He also claimed that Trump wouldn’t have won the last election without his help.
Trump fired back, saying he felt let down by Musk. He called Musk unstable and hinted that his behavior had become too much to handle. The argument didn’t stop there—Musk hit back again on his social media platform X, suggesting that the Trump administration had covered up important information about Jeffrey Epstein, possibly to protect Trump himself.

A senior Russian official, Dmitry Novikov, even said that Russia would be willing to give Musk political asylum if things got worse. However, he also said he doubts Musk would need it because he believes Musk is playing a very different kind of game.
The Kremlin responded calmly, saying this is a private matter for the United States and they had no intention of getting involved. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesperson, said they are confident Trump can handle the issue on his own. Another Russian official, Dmitry Medvedev, even joked about the situation, saying they were ready to help Musk and Trump make peace if needed.
Meanwhile, Musk has also been facing strong criticism from the public. His work with a government group called the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, led to massive layoffs in federal offices, leaving many workers jobless and some government services frozen. This has hurt his reputation and affected how people view his companies, like Tesla.
