Senator Caught Red-Handed ‘Lying’ About Working With Trump Through the Weekend — But One Zoomed-In Detail Made It Even Worse

Senator Markwayne Mullin tried to make it look like he and Donald Trump were working hard at the White House over the weekend, but the truth turned out to be very different—and people online noticed immediately.

Mullin posted shiny, well-staged photos of himself and Trump in the Oval Office. He wrote that they were “working through the weekend” and said it was always an honor to serve Oklahoma from the White House. At first glance, the pictures looked convincing, and Mullin clearly hoped people would see Trump as a leader tirelessly managing the government shutdown.

But there was one big problem: Donald Trump wasn’t even in Washington, D.C. at the time. He was in Florida, relaxing and playing golf at Mar-a-Lago. The photos Mullin shared were old, and sharp-eyed viewers quickly caught the lie.

People online immediately began pointing out the truth. Some asked how Trump could be in the Oval Office if he was physically in Florida. Others mocked Mullin for lying so boldly when the truth was easy to verify. Viewers also zoomed in on Trump’s desk in the photos and noticed it wasn’t filled with important documents or briefing papers—it was covered with printed screenshots of Truth Social posts. That made Mullin’s attempt to make Trump look hardworking seem even more ridiculous.

Many users online called Mullin a terrible liar, with some joking that he was lying for no reason. Others said he was trying too hard to impress Trump and ended up embarrassing himself instead.

This isn’t the first time Trump or his administration has been accused of misleading the public. Fact-checkers, including The Washington Post, have documented tens of thousands of false or misleading statements from Trump during his presidency. Even small things, like claiming his inauguration crowd was bigger than Barack Obama’s, were proven untrue.

Meanwhile, the real news of the weekend was much more serious. After 43 days, the longest shutdown in U.S. history finally came to an end. The Senate and House passed a funding bill, with some Democrats joining Republicans to reopen the government. The White House even posted, “We are so back,” after Trump signed the bill.

The shutdown caused chaos across the country, especially in airports. TSA agents and air traffic controllers were forced to work without pay, and many airports faced major delays, shortages, and staff stress. CNN reported that 40 major airports cut flights, while The Guardian said more than a thousand flights were canceled and hundreds delayed. Airports in big cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Washington, D.C. were hit the hardest.

So while Markwayne Mullin was online trying to paint a heroic picture of Trump working nonstop, the truth was that Trump was enjoying his weekend in Florida—and the country was still struggling with the effects of the shutdown. And once again, the internet caught the lie almost instantly.
