Trump slammed for new ‘disrespectful’ comments on Texas floods following remark that made people ‘want to throw up’

Donald Trump visited Texas this week after devastating flash floods struck the state. The disaster caused the deaths of at least 129 people, and rescue teams are still searching for more than 150 others who are missing. The floods were so severe that entire mobile homes, cars, and vacation cabins were swept away.

Many families were in the area celebrating Independence Day when the flooding hit. Officials said a month’s worth of rain fell in just a few hours, causing the Guadalupe River to rise dangerously to 26 feet.

During his trip, Trump appeared on Fox News with his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, where he was asked to share a message for families who had lost loved ones. Instead of offering a clear expression of sympathy, Trump commented, “There can be nothing worse, losing a child. Maybe they should’ve had bells or something go off.” He also added, “It’s pretty dangerous territory when you think of all the times they have had this problem.”

These remarks upset many people online. Some called them insensitive and out of touch, especially for those grieving such a painful loss. Many felt he failed to truly comfort the families or recognize the seriousness of what they were going through.

Later, while speaking to reporters in Kerrville, Trump described the floods by saying the river rose 26 feet in under 45 minutes and claimed someone even told him it might have reached 60 feet. He compared it to a massive wave in the Pacific Ocean that even top surfers would be scared of. This odd comparison drew more criticism. People on social media said it sounded like he was talking about an extreme sport rather than a deadly disaster. One person wrote, “This makes me want to throw up.” Another said, “He’s describing floods like they’re an amusement park ride, while people are dying.”

Many felt Trump’s words were disrespectful and not fitting for a tragic situation where so many lives were lost or affected.

First Lady Melania Trump was also there and addressed the grieving families. She offered heartfelt condolences, saying, “My deepest sympathy to all of the parents who lost beautiful young souls. We are grieving with you. Our nation is grieving with you.” Her words were seen as more comforting and appropriate for the occasion.
