Trump supporters are revealing the ‘red line’ that would make them stop supporting him and people say it’s ‘disturbing’

President Trump’s latest approval ratings have come out, and they’re not looking great. Even though it’s only been eight months since he won the 2024 election, many Americans are already unhappy with how he’s doing as president.
According to a recent poll from Emerson College, 45% of people said they approved of the job Trump is doing, while 46% disapproved. The rest weren’t sure. The same poll showed that 45% of people think the country is headed in the wrong direction.
Another poll from Quinnipiac University showed even worse results for Trump, with only 38% of Americans saying they approve of his performance. That’s one of the lowest approval ratings for any president in recent decades.
These numbers have sparked conversation online. On Reddit, some Trump supporters are discussing what it would take for them to stop supporting him — or what already made them walk away.
One Reddit user said they asked their dad, who’s a very strong Trump supporter, what would make him change his mind. His answer was simple: if Trump allows cuts to programs like Medicaid and Social Security, he would stop supporting him.
Another person asked their parents the same question and said their answer was based on fear of liberal policies. Their parents said they’d stop supporting Trump only if he started backing ideas like government-run healthcare, taxes on the wealthy, support for labor unions, or more government control over things like the media. They also said they don’t support policies that promote equal rights, voting protections, or immigration that welcomes people in. To them, liberal ideas are something dangerous that they believe should be eliminated from the country entirely.
One person found that response deeply troubling and called it “disturbing.”
Others in the discussion shared that they had already stopped supporting Trump. One person said they voted for him in 2020 but changed their mind after the events of January 6th, when the Capitol was stormed. They said that day showed a clear disrespect for democracy. Since then, they’ve reconsidered both their political and religious beliefs and now see themselves as more of a centrist Democrat.
Another person mentioned knowing some Republicans who used to back Trump but changed their minds after his meeting with Ukraine’s President Zelensky earlier this year. They found the meeting embarrassing and said it was the final straw.
All in all, while Trump still has strong support from some people, cracks are starting to show — and for some, the line has already been crossed.
