Fox News surprised many political watchers on Saturday after airing a report that openly mentioned visible bruising on Donald Trump’s hand, referring to the former president as “elderly.” For a network that usually avoids discussing Trump’s physical condition, the segment immediately caught attention and sparked reactions across the political spectrum.
During the broadcast, conservative commentator Elisha Krauss tried to downplay the bruising. She told Fox viewers that it did not look suspicious to her at all. Drawing from her experience working with high-profile public figures, she said that people who shake a lot of hands often end up with marks or bruises. She added that Trump is an older man and that skin naturally becomes thinner and more fragile with age, making bruising more likely.
That explanation, however, did not sit well with many political analysts and commentators, who quickly pushed back online. Democratic strategist Adam Parkhomenko sarcastically noted that Trump probably wasn’t happy to see Fox News openly discussing bruises on his hand, especially given how carefully his image is usually protected on conservative media.
Others were more blunt. April Perry questioned the explanation outright, responding with a simple “Really?” She then suggested people look up a recently approved Alzheimer’s medication, hinting that the discussion might raise broader questions about Trump’s health, even though no evidence was offered to directly connect the two.
Former federal prosecutor Ron Filipkowski was especially critical. He mocked the idea that months of heavy makeup and bandages on Trump’s hand could be explained away by handshakes alone. He argued that Fox News was insulting its audience by expecting them to accept that explanation without question, adding that the network showed clear contempt for its own viewers by pushing what he saw as an obvious cover story.
Political analyst Tara O’Connor didn’t bother with words, responding instead with an eye-roll emoji, signaling disbelief and frustration. Former Republican Ashley C. Dinney was even harsher, telling Fox News to “cope more” and bluntly stating that Trump looks visibly unwell and appears to be deteriorating with time.
Radio host Justice also weighed in, pointing out what he saw as a contradiction in Fox’s explanation. He reminded people that Trump has long described himself as a germaphobe and even wrote years ago that he rarely shakes hands, making the idea that constant handshaking caused the bruising seem questionable.
Meanwhile, PatriotTakes, a group that monitors right-wing media and extremism, suggested that Fox News was trying to shut down any questioning of the official narrative coming from the White House and Trump’s allies. According to them, the network appeared uncomfortable with viewers or commentators raising concerns about Trump’s appearance or health.
Altogether, the episode highlighted an unusual moment where Fox News acknowledged something that critics have been pointing out for months. Instead of calming the conversation, the explanation offered on air only fueled more speculation, skepticism, and mockery, drawing even more attention to Trump’s appearance and the lengths some media outlets may go to avoid deeper questions.
