Woman only injects one half of her face with Botox to show what it does to your face

If you’ve ever wondered what Botox really does to your face, Dr. Bita Farrell gave everyone a clear demonstration — by testing it on herself.

Dr. Farrell decided to become her own “lab rat” to show the effects of Botox firsthand. Instead of injecting her entire face, she only treated one side, making it easier to see exactly what happens. Botox, which is made from a neurotoxic protein, is often used for cosmetic reasons to temporarily relax facial muscles, giving the skin a smoother, less wrinkled look. However, the results aren’t permanent and usually last just a few months, meaning regular maintenance is needed to keep up the effects.

Dr. Farrell, a board-certified physician with over 20 years of experience and training from UCLA, was definitely in good hands — her own. Two weeks before she shared her video, she had injected Botox into just the lower muscles on the right side of her face.

She specifically targeted two muscles: the DAO, which pulls the corners of the mouth downward, and the platysma, a muscle that helps with facial expressions and movements around the neck and jawline..

When Dr. Farrell showed the results, it was obvious. The right side, where she injected Botox, barely moved when she tried to smile or make expressions. Meanwhile, the left, untreated side was much more active and expressive.

She pointed out that on the untreated side, the muscles were clearly pulling her jawline down, creating more sagging and visible lines around the mouth. On the Botox-treated side, her cheek looked higher, and the folds near her nose and mouth were noticeably softer.

In a caption, Dr. Farrell explained that the muscles in the face either pull upward or downward. By relaxing the muscles that pull the face downward (like the platysma and DAO) with Botox, the upward-pulling muscles (like the cheek muscles) become more dominant. This can lift the cheeks, sharpen the jawline, smooth out lines around the mouth, and even make the neck look tighter. She also mentioned that Botox results typically last three to four months, and there are several FDA-approved brands that can be used for this kind of treatment.

Jokingly, she added that she needed to inject the other side of her face quickly to even things out!

Viewers were amazed by the side-by-side comparison and flooded her comment section with reactions. Many praised her bravery and transparency, with some saying they gained a lot of respect for her willingness to show real results. Others admitted they were freaked out by the idea of having half their face frozen, while a few even said they preferred the look of the untreated side.

Regardless of personal opinions about Botox, almost everyone agreed that Dr. Farrell’s demonstration was incredibly eye-opening. Seeing the effects so clearly on just one side of the face made it impossible to deny how powerful the treatment can be.
