Trump Warns Of The Perils Of ‘Trophy Wives’ During West Point Commencement Speech

During a graduation speech to new military officers at West Point, President Donald Trump started talking about something unexpected. In the middle of his message to the cadets, he went off-topic and brought up “trophy wives,” which are usually younger, attractive women that older wealthy men marry often seen more as a symbol of success than a true partner.

Trump shared a story about William Levitt, a well-known real estate developer who became famous for creating affordable suburban homes after World War II. Levitt built entire neighborhoods that became known as Levittowns, and he made a big name for himself in the housing industry.

Trump said that Levitt had a lot of momentum in his career, meaning he was doing well and moving forward with success. But then, according to Trump, things started to fall apart for Levitt—not just in business, but also in his personal life.

Trump talked about how Levitt got divorced and then married another woman, someone Trump called a “trophy wife.” He repeated the term a few times and suggested that relationships like that often don’t work out. He said that even though the new marriage might have made Levitt feel good for a short time, it didn’t last and didn’t bring lasting happiness.

Trump added that, in his experience, a lot of marriages to trophy wives eventually fall apart. He didn’t explain why he brought this up during a military graduation speech, and it didn’t seem connected to the main message he was supposed to give.

Levitt himself was married three times. His first marriage ended in divorce in 1959. That same year, he married his secretary, but they divorced a decade later in 1969. That same year, he married again, this time to a woman named Simone Korchin, who stayed with him until he passed away.

Trump, who has also been married three times, might have been trying to draw a comparison or just reflect on relationships and success. Still, the comments felt out of place for many listening, especially during a serious and formal event like a military graduation.

Later in the speech, Trump continued with his usual style of bragging. He said the United States was now the “hottest country in the world,” meaning it was the most powerful or successful, and he gave himself credit for rebuilding the American military.

He wore his familiar red “Make America Great Again” hat as he spoke. Throughout the speech, he mixed in personal stories, jokes, and off-topic remarks, which is something he often does during public appearances.
