JD Vance comes out of hiding to break silence with crass joke on Musk and Trump feud

JD Vance openly showed strong support for Donald Trump after a heated argument between Trump and Elon Musk grabbed attention online. Vance, who is now Vice President, broke his silence on social media following the dramatic fallout between the two powerful figures. Their relationship, once close during Trump’s 2024 campaign and the beginning of his second term, seemed to completely fall apart after a day of bitter exchanges and accusations.

Vance first posted a lighthearted picture of himself with comedian Theo Von, jokingly asking what they would even talk about on such a “slow news day.” But just two hours later, his tone turned serious. He made it clear that, in his opinion, Trump has done more than anyone in recent history to earn the loyalty of the movement he leads. He ended by saying he was proud to stand beside him.

Meanwhile, the online war between Trump and Musk had grown fierce. It all started over disagreements about a new tax and spending bill being pushed by Trump. Elon Musk was openly critical of it, and things escalated quickly. Musk even brought up Trump’s name being mentioned in documents connected to Jeffrey Epstein—a sensitive and controversial topic with potentially damaging implications. That added fuel to the fire.

Musk didn’t stop there. He went on to post a poll on his platform X, asking users whether it was time to create a new political party that would better represent the majority of Americans. By that evening, the poll had millions of votes, with about 80% of respondents saying “yes.”

Vance’s strong defense of Trump now stands in contrast to his views from a few years ago. Back in 2016, when Trump first ran for president, Vance was one of his harshest critics. He had called Trump an “idiot” and “reprehensible” and even compared him to Adolf Hitler in a private text conversation with his former college roommate, Josh McLaurin. Those comments eventually became public.

But things changed. As Trump remained a dominant force in Republican politics, Vance shifted his stance. He later received Trump’s endorsement for the Senate and was eventually chosen as his running mate for the 2024 election. Many critics see Vance’s complete turnaround as political opportunism—a way to climb the ladder of power by aligning himself with Trump.

Josh McLaurin, still unimpressed by the change, wrote in 2022 that the public needs to understand how dishonest Vance has been in the past, pointing to his dramatic shift in loyalty as evidence of bad faith.

This latest episode shows how deep the political divisions have become and how quickly alliances can shift—especially when power, influence, and public image are on the line.
