U.S. President Donald Trump shared a serious message on Truth Social as violent protests continued to spread in California over immigration enforcement. On Sunday evening, Trump warned that law and order would soon be brought back to Los Angeles, which he described as a city that has been “taken over” by undocumented immigrants and criminals.
He claimed that large, angry groups were attacking federal agents in an effort to block deportations and immigration raids. Trump said these riots would not weaken the government’s efforts, but instead make them more determined. He also stated that the city of Los Angeles, which he once saw as great, had been invaded and needed to be “liberated.”
Trump explained that he had directed key officials in his administration—including Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Pam Bondi—to take whatever actions were necessary to stop the riots and remove the migrants involved. He promised that illegal immigrants would be expelled and Los Angeles would be “set free.”
In another post, Trump thanked the National Guard for their actions following two days of unrest and violence. He criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, calling them incompetent and accusing them of being slow to handle not only the riots but also past emergencies like wildfires and construction permit delays.
Trump went further by announcing that masks would no longer be allowed at protests, claiming that the people wearing them were hiding something and possibly stirring up trouble. He described the protests as being organized by radical leftists and people who were sometimes paid to cause chaos. He praised the National Guard again and said he appreciated their service.
The president had ordered 2,000 National Guard troops to be deployed to Los Angeles, even though Governor Newsom opposed the move. The situation had already gotten intense, with protesters clashing with federal immigration officers, who responded with tear gas, loud flash-bang grenades, and pepper balls.
Federal officials said that the troops were being sent in to bring back peace and stop the chaos that had been left to grow. The violence reportedly began on Saturday night near a Home Depot in Paramount, a city with a large Latino population, where immigration agents had set up near a local Homeland Security office.
The day before, there were also immigration raids in downtown Los Angeles, including the fashion district. These actions led to even more protests, and the situation quickly got out of control.
California’s Governor Newsom strongly criticized Trump’s response. He said the president’s language was designed to provoke people and make the situation worse. He also warned the public not to give in to the federal government’s apparent desire to turn the protests into a bigger spectacle by reacting with violence.
