Ilhan Omar Hits Back At Donald Trump With 2 Pointed Sentences After His Repeated Attacks

Donald Trump has been going after Rep. Ilhan Omar again and again since Thanksgiving. He has made fun of how she looks, attacked her Muslim religion, and insulted Somalia, the country where she was born. These comments haven’t been small remarks — they have been repeated and mean-spirited.

He even said hurtful things during a Cabinet meeting, calling Omar “garbage” in front of his top officials. He went on to say that Somalia is barely a country and that people there do nothing but hurt each other. He claimed that Omar constantly complains about the United States and its Constitution, even though she is now a U.S. lawmaker.

Trump continued with more accusations, saying she hates Jewish people and calling her a terrible person. Ilhan Omar is the first refugee born in Africa to become a member of Congress, and she has gained attention for speaking up for immigrants and Muslims.

In response to Trump’s attacks, she didn’t write a long essay or give a big speech. She simply posted online, saying his obsession with her is “creepy” and that she hopes he gets the help he needs. Her reply was brief but strong, showing she wasn’t letting his insults silence her.

Trump didn’t stop. A few days earlier, he wrote a harsh message about her online on his social platform. In that message, he made fun of her hijab and repeated a false claim that she married her brother to enter the United States, suggesting she broke the law.

He also painted Somalia as a dark and hopeless place, saying it has no government, no military, no police, and no schools — statements that are not true. He then used those claims to argue that the United States should permanently block people from entire regions of the world, especially poorer countries.

During that same Cabinet meeting where he called Omar “garbage,” Trump also made sweeping comments about immigrants. He said the country is being ruined by what he called “garbage” coming into the United States. He repeated the insult three times, saying Omar and anyone like her are garbage. He suggested that immigrants should be grateful because he believes they come from nothing and have no right to complain about anything in America. His words were meant to blame and shame people born outside the country, especially those like Omar who speak up about injustice.

This isn’t a new fight. Omar has responded to Trump on social media many times before because he has insulted her for years. She usually responds calmly, sometimes even humorously, while still demanding respect for herself and others like her.

Other politicians who have been attacked by Trump recently have also pushed back. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who Trump insulted in the same set of posts, told Trump to release his medical scan results if he wants to question others’ health. That comment came after Trump bragged to reporters about having a physical exam that included an MRI.

The back-and-forth between Trump and Omar highlights how personal and angry American politics can get. Instead of discussing ideas or disagreements, Trump has chosen to go after Omar’s identity — her religion, her birthplace, and her appearance.

Omar, on the other hand, uses short, confident replies to show she will not be intimidated or bullied. Their exchanges reflect a bigger struggle in the country about who gets to be seen as American, who gets to speak up, and how leaders treat people who are different from them.
