Donald Trump recently made a nervous-sounding plea to members of his own party who are refusing to support his latest attempt to gain more political control.
Over the weekend, he went on Truth Social and attacked Republican lawmakers in Indiana who might vote against a new proposal that would change election district maps.
These changes would give Republicans more seats in Congress. Earlier, he had praised Indiana Republicans in the state House for approving the new maps, saying they were “fairer” and that they would allow Indiana to elect two more Republicans in the 2026 elections.
But his message quickly shifted when he talked about what still needed to happen. He demanded that the Indiana Senate approve the maps without changing anything and send them to the governor as fast as possible.
He even listed nine Republican senators by name, saying they needed to be pressured into voting yes. He urged his supporters to make sure those senators heard from them and that they should “do the right thing.”
The next day, he continued publicly attacking those same lawmakers. He questioned why any “real Republican” would vote against the plan, pointing out that Democrats have used similar tactics before. Trump then threatened that if these lawmakers reject the maps, voters should remove them from office. He promised he would personally show up to help defeat them.
His messages made clear that he sees this vote as a test of loyalty either they support him and his push for more Republican power, or he wants them out of the way.
