Michael Kosta Hits Donald Trump Administration With R-Rated Question Over New Navy Secretary
On an episode of The Daily Show, host Michael Kosta reacted to the appointment of Hung Cao as acting Navy Secretary, and while he gave him some credit, he also clearly found parts of his past comments hard to take seriously.
Kosta started by admitting that Cao at least brings real military experience to the role. He pointed out that Cao is a Navy combat veteran who has spent many years serving, which already puts him ahead of the previous acting secretary, John Phelan, who didn’t have that kind of background. That part, Kosta suggested, was reassuring.
But things quickly shifted when Kosta brought up something Cao said in a 2023 interview while he was running for Senate in Virginia. In that interview, Cao described Monterey as a “dark place” and claimed that witchcraft and the Wiccan community had taken over, warning that something similar should not be allowed to happen in Virginia.
Kosta clearly couldn’t hide his disbelief. He joked sarcastically that, of course, the country must be protected from witches taking control, making it obvious he didn’t buy the idea at all. Then he pushed it further, raising his voice and questioning what Cao even meant. He sounded genuinely frustrated, asking why it seems so hard to find leaders who speak in a normal, grounded way instead of making strange or extreme claims.
The segment mixed humor with criticism, as Kosta used exaggeration and blunt language to show how unusual he found those remarks. His reaction wasn’t just about making the audience laugh — it also reflected concern about the kind of statements coming from people in serious leadership positions.
Meanwhile, a local TV station in Monterey also looked into Cao’s claims and challenged them. They reported that there’s no clear public data showing any kind of large witch population in the area. They also pointed out that Cao may have misunderstood Wicca. Wicca is a modern spiritual belief system that focuses on nature and balance, not something dark or dangerous as it’s often wrongly portrayed.
