Kristen Welker Shares What Donald Trump Told Her After ‘Meet The Press’ Meltdown

President Donald Trump abruptly ended a recent interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker after a tense exchange, but according to the journalist, he appeared much calmer when they spoke again the following day.

Welker revealed that she had a conversation with Trump the morning after the interview. While she did not share his exact words, she said he suggested that bad weather had affected the situation and indicated that he would be willing to sit down for another interview in Washington.

The interview, which aired on Sunday, became increasingly heated as Trump repeated several claims that have been widely disputed. He insisted that FBI agents helped guide supporters into the U.S. Capitol during the January 6, 2021 riot and continued to claim that both the 2020 presidential election and a recent election in California were unfairly conducted. As Welker questioned these statements and repeatedly asked for evidence, the discussion became more confrontational.

The interview was filmed inside a barn in Wisconsin while heavy rain pounded the roof outside. The noisy conditions added to the tension as Welker continued pressing Trump for proof to support his claims. According to reports, he was unable to provide evidence during the interview, which appeared to frustrate him even more.

As the conversation continued, Trump became visibly irritated. He repeatedly criticized Welker, calling her names and accusing the media of being dishonest. His frustration eventually reached a breaking point.

At one stage, Trump announced that he had had enough and wanted to end the interview. He thanked Welker sarcastically and told her it was time to stop. Welker reminded him that she had travelled a long distance to conduct the interview, but Trump responded that he had already spent an hour speaking with her in difficult weather conditions and believed he had given enough of his time.

He then launched into another criticism of the press, arguing that the country could never be truly successful if the media remained dishonest. After making his point, he signaled to his team that he was finished, stood up from his seat, briefly touched Welker on the shoulder, and walked away from the set, bringing the interview to an abrupt end.

Despite the tense encounter, Welker later suggested that Trump’s attitude had softened during their follow-up conversation. She indicated that he seemed more relaxed and open to conducting another interview in the future.

The incident also highlighted Trump’s often combative relationship with journalists, particularly female reporters. In recent months, he has had several heated exchanges with members of the media, including CNN journalist Kaitlan Collins.

For her part, Welker said she was not surprised by Trump’s reaction. Having covered him since his first presidential campaign in 2015, she explained that such confrontations have become a familiar part of reporting on him. She said his comments and criticism do not bother her because she expects difficult moments to arise during interviews and considers them part of the job.

At the moment, it remains unclear whether a second interview between Trump and Welker will actually take place, but the dramatic walkout has once again drawn attention to the often tense relationship between Trump and the American media.
