U.S. Congressman Insults Donald Trump, “Couldn’t Handle It,” Says Mike Johnson Had To Protect The President

Jamie Raskin, a Democratic Representative from Maryland, recently commented on the different treatment of two lawmakers who disrupted presidential speeches in Congress. The discussion came after Texas Democratic Representative Al Green was censured by the House of Representatives for interrupting President Donald Trump’s address to Congress last week.
Green was escorted out of the chamber after he called for the protection of Medicaid during Trump’s speech. The decision to censure Green was supported by a majority of Republicans and ten Democrats, following orders from House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana.
Many people following American politics questioned why Green faced censure for his actions, while Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia did not receive similar punishment when she interrupted President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address in 2024.
During Biden’s speech, Greene, who was already violating House rules by wearing campaign-related clothing, shouted at Biden to say the name of Laken Riley, a young woman from Georgia who was tragically murdered by an undocumented migrant. Riley’s parents were guests of Trump at his speech.
Jamie Raskin, a well-known critic of Donald Trump, explained the difference in treatment during an interview. He suggested that Al Green had to be removed from Trump’s speech because Trump “couldn’t handle” the interruption. Raskin contrasted this with Biden’s response to Marjorie Taylor Greene’s outburst, saying that Biden dealt with the situation calmly and responded directly. According to Raskin, Trump lacked the “verbal dexterity” to handle such disruptions, which is why Green was removed.
However, a supporter of Marjorie Taylor Greene offered a different perspective in the comments. They argued that the key difference was how each lawmaker behaved after their initial outburst.
According to this commenter, Greene “sat down and shut up” after her interruption, while Al Green continued to disrupt the speech, refusing to stop. The commenter criticized Green for not admitting that his behavior was inappropriate and suggested that his actions were driven by what they called “TDS” (Trump Derangement Syndrome), a term often used by Trump supporters to describe intense criticism of the former president.
It’s worth noting that Marjorie Taylor Greene has interrupted Biden during other State of the Union speeches without facing censure. The contrasting treatment of the two lawmakers has sparked debate about fairness and consistency in how Congress handles such disruptions, as well as the broader political tensions between Democrats and Republicans.
