Donald Trump Makes A ‘Very Strong’ Statement About Possible 2028 Reelection Bid

President Donald Trump has made one of his clearest comments yet about whether he can run for the White House again in 2028.

After stepping off Air Force One on Tuesday night, a reporter asked Trump if he was seriously thinking about seeking a third term as president.

Trump replied that people ask him the same question all the time. However, he admitted that US law clearly prevents him from running again.

“The law is very strong on that,” Trump said. “I would love to run, but the law is very strong. Even tonight, people at the event were shouting ‘2028!’ Everyone wants me to do it, but the law is very strong.”

Under the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution, a person cannot be elected president more than twice. This means Trump would not normally be allowed to stand for another term in 2028.

Despite this rule, Trump has continued to sell “Trump 2028” hats and shirts. He has also regularly shared pictures and jokes online suggesting that he could run again.

Since returning to the White House, Trump has repeatedly raised the idea of seeking a third term. In an interview with NBC News last year, he claimed there were possible “methods” that could allow him to run again. He also insisted that he was not joking about the idea.

Trump’s longtime ally Steve Bannon previously predicted that Trump would run in 2028 and win. Bannon said people should prepare themselves for the possibility of Trump serving a third term.

Earlier this year, Trump also shared an image claiming that a third term should be his “reward” because the 2020 presidential election was allegedly stolen from him. On another occasion, he said he felt “entitled” to serve another term.

However, Trump has sometimes admitted that the Constitution does not allow him to run again. Last year, he said the rule was clear and that he was not permitted to seek another term, adding that it was “too bad.”
