Donald Trump posted a harsh message on social media criticizing Fox News host Jessica Tarlov after she made emotional comments about a mass shooting in Manhattan and called for stronger gun laws.
Tarlov spoke on Fox News’ show The Five about the recent tragic shooting in New York City. She mentioned that she personally knew people who were connected to two of the victims. One of those victims was NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, who left behind a wife who is eight months pregnant and two children.
During the show, Tarlov supported New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s push for a national ban on assault weapons. She also pointed out that the suspect in the shooting had a history of mental health issues, raising concerns about how he was able to legally carry a weapon.
Just as Tarlov was making these points live on air, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, attacking her directly. He said, “I can’t stand Jessica Tarlov of THE FIVE. A real loser!!! DJT.”
Tarlov questioned how the shooter managed to get a concealed carry permit, even in a state like Nevada, and asked how such things keep happening. She said it’s unrealistic to stop every dangerous person, but stopping just one could save lives. “If we had stopped this one,” she said, “four people would still be alive today. I don’t see why that would be a bad thing.”
This isn’t the first time Trump has gone after Tarlov. He previously criticized her after she pointed out negative poll numbers related to him on the show. At that time, he said her voice, her behavior, and her opinions were, in his words, “a disgrace to television.”
Despite the attacks, Tarlov has continued to speak out, recently bringing up Trump’s low approval ratings on immigration issues as well.
In a separate post earlier on the day of the shooting, Trump did express sympathy for the victims and called the attack senseless. However, his criticism of Tarlov seems to be part of an ongoing pattern of targeting her when she brings up topics or facts that put him in a negative light.
