Donald Trump Couldn’t Stop Himself — He Snapped, Hurled Insults, Then Whispered Something to a Secret Service Agent and Was Whisked Away Still Fuming and It’s All on Camera

President Donald Trump turned Thursday’s unveiling of the renovated Reflecting Pool into a dramatic and tense exchange with reporters. What started as a normal press event quickly changed after one question about his expensive renovation projects appeared to frustrate him, causing the atmosphere to become heated.

Now, many people are criticizing Trump after he insulted another Black female reporter who questioned why he was spending time and money on renovation projects while many Americans are struggling with high gas prices and rising living costs.

During the press conference near the Reflecting Pool in Washington, ABC News senior correspondent Rachel Scott asked Trump why he was focusing on beautification projects while serious international tensions and economic concerns were affecting Americans.

“Mr. President, we are here while there is major conflict happening overseas. Why focus on all these projects when gas prices are so high?” she asked.

Trump immediately defended the renovations. He said he wanted America to remain “beautiful and safe” and complained that famous landmarks in Washington looked dirty and neglected.

“You know why? Because I want to keep our country beautiful and safe,” Trump responded. “This place was disgusting. The Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, all of it looked terrible. Maybe you don’t notice dirt, but I do.”

Trump claimed workers removed “11 or 12 truckloads” of garbage from the Reflecting Pool area during the cleanup project. He also spoke proudly about restoring the pool, which dates back to around 1922.

According to reports, contractors said the pool had been deteriorating for years and could be repaired in a short period of time. Trump reportedly approved a new color for the water area called “American Flag Blue.”

But the exchange quickly became more aggressive when Trump grew angry at the reporter’s question.

“Such a stupid question,” he snapped. “We’re fixing up the Reflecting Pool and the monuments, and you ask why we’re fixing them? Maybe you understand dirt better than I do, but I don’t accept it.”

Trump also attacked the reporter personally, calling her “one of the worst reporters” and accusing ABC News of being “fake news.”

“She’s a horror show,” Trump said in front of cameras.

The president reportedly became even more upset afterward and called the question “a disgrace to our country.” Witnesses said he then leaned over and whispered something to a nearby Secret Service agent.

A short time later, Senator Markwayne Mullin was seen guiding Trump away from reporters while speaking quietly to him and placing a hand on his shoulder as the president continued to appear angry.

This is not the first time Trump has clashed with Rachel Scott. In 2024, during an event hosted by the National Association of Black Journalists, Trump criticized Scott before even answering her question.

At the time, he complained that she did not greet him politely before starting the interview.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been asked a question in such a horrible manner,” Trump said then. “You didn’t even say hello.”

The following year, Scott also questioned Trump about unreleased military footage connected to a capsized boat incident, and he reportedly walked out of the room during that exchange.

After Thursday’s confrontation, many people online rushed to defend Scott and criticize Trump’s behavior, especially his repeated attacks on female journalists.

One social media user accused Trump of damaging Washington while pretending to improve it, pointing to construction changes around the city and criticizing renovations at landmarks like the Kennedy Center and the White House grounds.

Another person wrote that Trump is often disrespectful toward women and questioned why more people do not publicly challenge him over it.

Others praised Rachel Scott for continuing to ask difficult questions and said she was doing the job many Americans expect journalists to do — pushing leaders for real answers instead of avoiding uncomfortable topics.

Some commenters also expressed frustration that reporters often cannot respond strongly during live events because they fear losing their jobs or access.

The controversy grew even larger after ABC News reportedly filed a lawsuit against Trump the next day. The network claimed the president violated the company’s First Amendment rights by launching an investigation related to whether the daytime talk show The View had broken equal-time broadcasting rules connected to political candidates.

The heated exchange quickly spread online, with videos and clips of the confrontation going viral as critics and supporters once again debated Trump’s treatment of journalists and his focus on high-profile renovation projects while many Americans continue facing economic pressure.
