Donald Trump is once again facing backlash after unveiling what many people are calling one of his most childish insults yet for Democrats — “Dumbocrats.”
The new nickname comes at a time when the White House has publicly encouraged politicians and public figures to lower the temperature of political rhetoric and reduce hostile language. That irony was not lost on critics online.
Trump has long been known for giving mocking nicknames to his political rivals. Over the years, he has labeled opponents with names like “Sleepy Joe,” “Crooked Hillary,” and “Comrade Kamala.” Supporters often see the nicknames as entertaining and politically effective, while critics view them as divisive and immature.
Speaking during a White House event for Police Week, Trump proudly introduced his newest insult, appearing amused by his own joke.
“A new name I came up with yesterday was a ‘Dumbocrat,’” Trump said while addressing the crowd. “I think that could be a good one. You know, I’ve come up with some extraordinary names.”
He later repeated the term during a Maternal Health Event, saying Democrats are called “Dumbocrats” because “they’re dumb people.”
The comments immediately triggered strong reactions online, with many people mocking the president instead of praising the nickname.
Several critics pointed out the contradiction between Trump’s words and recent calls from political leaders to calm down aggressive political rhetoric in America.
“All of course to tone down the rhetoric,” one person sarcastically wrote online after the clip spread across social media.
Others argued the insult sounded more like something from a school playground than from the president of the United States.
One critic described Trump as a “79-year-old child,” saying only someone immature and narcissistic would proudly believe they invented such an old and simplistic insult.
Another person called the remark “something a grade-three bully would say,” adding that it was embarrassing behavior for a president.
Some critics went even further, calling Trump “the dumbest president in American history” while accusing him of lowering the standard of political discourse in the country.
Despite the backlash, Trump continues to lean heavily into the combative political style that has defined his public image for years. His supporters often enjoy his blunt and mocking language because they see it as proof that he is fighting against political elites and refusing to behave like traditional politicians.
But critics argue that this kind of language only deepens political division at a time when tensions in the country are already extremely high.
As the clips continue circulating online, the debate has once again reopened over whether Trump’s political style energizes his base or damages the tone of American politics altogether.
