Two people have been arrested after six people believed to have entered the UK illegally were found hiding in the back of a lorry in Goole, East Yorkshire.

Police were called to Anderson Road in the town at around 6pm on Tuesday, August 18, after receiving reports that several people believed to have entered the country illegally were inside a lorry.

A large number of police officers were seen in the area as they responded to the report. Footage shared on social media also appeared to show officers dealing with the situation and several people being taken from the back of the vehicle.

Humberside Police later confirmed that six people had been found inside the lorry. The six were detained under immigration offences while officers continued their investigation into how they entered the UK and how they came to be inside the vehicle.

Two other people have also been arrested in connection with the incident. Police said a 27-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of helping an asylum seeker enter the UK.

Both suspects remained in police custody as officers continued making enquiries. Police have not said whether the six people found inside the lorry were connected to either of the two arrested suspects.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said officers had attended Anderson Road after receiving reports that people believed to have entered the UK illegally were inside a lorry.
