A Republican voter has strongly criticised President Donald Trump over the way he is handling the US economy, saying the president does not seem to understand the problems many ordinary Americans are facing.
The man, who gave his name as Ed from Utah, called into C-SPAN earlier this month and openly shared his frustration with Trump and other political leaders.
During the call, Ed said he was shocked by Trump’s attitude towards the struggles facing people across the country. He said America has a president who appears to show very little compassion or understanding towards people who are finding life difficult.
He questioned why so many people continue to support Trump despite this.
Ed also made it clear that his criticism was not only aimed at Republicans. He said political leaders on both the left and the right were doing a poor job and were failing to deal with some of the biggest problems affecting Americans.
He then turned his attention to the economy, saying things were particularly difficult for small business owners.
According to Ed, while large companies continue to operate and take on more debt, many ordinary people and small businesses are struggling with the cost of living and other financial pressures.
He said Trump appeared to be unaware of what many Americans were going through.
“It’s like he’s oblivious to the situation most Americans are facing right now,” Ed said.
His comments came after another caller on the programme said America needed to “wake up” when it came to Trump.
Ed also responded to another person who had called the programme and said they were proud of the America Trump was building, including what was happening in Washington, D.C.
However, Ed argued that the focus should be on improving the lives of people living in towns and cities across the country rather than putting so much attention on Washington.
He suggested that more power and financial opportunities should be given back to ordinary families.
For Ed, helping families become financially stronger and giving people more control over their own lives should be a bigger priority.
He ended his comments by saying America could enjoy better times again if leaders focused more on ordinary families and the everyday problems people are facing.
