Obama’s expletive-laden take on Trump Jr.’s intellect exposed in Fauci diaries
Former President Barack Obama reportedly used strong language to describe Donald Trump Jr.’s intelligence, according to newly released diary entries written by Dr. Anthony Fauci.
The diary, which reportedly runs to more than 1,000 pages, reveals private conversations and events that took place during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the entries describes a conversation between Obama and Fauci in November 2021, when Fauci was facing intense criticism from Donald Trump Jr. and many of his supporters.
According to the diary, Trump Jr. had begun selling merchandise that mocked Fauci using slogans linked to false claims that he had carried out cruel puppy experiments. The accusations spread widely online, leading to a wave of public anger directed at Fauci.
The diary claims that Obama reached out to comfort Fauci during that difficult period. Fauci wrote that Obama described Donald Trump Jr. as “a f—ing moron” before apologising for using such strong language. Fauci also recalled Obama saying that former President Donald Trump was “a hopeless idiot” and “a pathologic liar.”
Fauci wrote that Obama was especially frustrated that many moderate Republican politicians were not publicly defending him. According to the diary, Obama believed they had remained silent while Fauci was being attacked and falsely accused, instead of speaking out against what he described as slanderous behaviour.
The diary was released by Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, who has been one of Fauci’s strongest critics for years. Paul has repeatedly argued that Fauci should be held responsible for decisions made during the pandemic and has continued to question the origins of COVID-19, including promoting allegations connected to the lab-leak theory in China. Fauci has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
The diary also describes the impact the controversy had on Fauci and his staff. It says his office received thousands of hostile phone calls within days of Donald Trump Jr. promoting the false claims online. The volume of abuse reportedly became so overwhelming that staff stopped answering telephone calls for a period of time.
Fauci remained one of the most criticised public health officials throughout the pandemic. Many supporters of the MAGA movement blamed him for promoting vaccines, face mask guidance and lockdown measures, while others defended him, saying he was following the scientific evidence available at the time.
The relationship between Fauci and Donald Trump had been strained since the early months of the pandemic, with the two often disagreeing publicly over the government’s response to COVID-19 and how information should be communicated to the public.
Earlier this week, Fauci also appeared before a Senate hearing, where he repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, reportedly doing so more than 100 times. He accused Senator Rand Paul of using the hearing to gather statements that could support his long-running calls for Fauci to face criminal charges, claims that Fauci has strongly rejected.
