Donald Trump’s newly unveiled $400 million Air Force One has sparked plenty of discussion, but not for the reason many people expected. While the luxurious aircraft was designed to impress with its size, technology, and high-end interior, many social media users have become fixated on one surprisingly small detail that they say is both strange and embarrassing.
The aircraft has been at the centre of controversy for well over a year. In May last year, reports emerged that President Donald Trump intended to accept a Boeing 747-8 aircraft from Qatar’s royal family to serve as the next Air Force One. The proposal immediately divided opinion, with supporters praising the opportunity to modernise the presidential fleet while critics questioned the decision and raised concerns about accepting such an expensive gift from a foreign government.
The aircraft was recently shown to the public when Trump gave people a closer look during a visit to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. Images of the plane quickly spread across social media, with many admiring its elegant design, luxurious furnishings, and upgraded interior. The aircraft appears to include premium seating, stylish décor, and many of the features expected from a plane intended to transport the President of the United States.
However, despite all the luxury on display, one tiny feature stole the spotlight. Eagle-eyed viewers noticed a bookshelf inside the aircraft, which at first glance appeared to contain a collection of books. But after taking a closer look, many claimed the books were simply decorative props rather than real reading material.
Adding to the online amusement, people pointed out that the books all appeared to have the same single-word title printed on their spines: “Library.” The unusual detail quickly became the focus of jokes and criticism across social media, with many questioning why a plane of such importance would be decorated with what looked like fake books instead of genuine reading material.
The detail first gained widespread attention after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared photographs taken inside the aircraft. Shortly afterwards, social media users zoomed in on the bookshelf and began commenting on what they had spotted.
One user joked, “Of course a plane full of people who have never read a book has a bookshelf of fake books with titles like ‘Library’.” Similar comments quickly followed, with many treating the discovery as a humorous example of style being chosen over substance.
Although the bookshelf has become an unexpected talking point, there has been no official comment explaining whether the books are purely decorative or intended as placeholders until the aircraft is fully completed. Even so, the images have continued to circulate online, generating thousands of reactions and keeping the discussion alive.
Many people also pointed out that replacing the decorative books with genuine ones would hardly be difficult if desired. Trump remains one of the wealthiest political figures in the world, and recent financial disclosures reported that his cryptocurrency ventures generated nearly $1.2 billion in income over the past year. With that level of wealth, social media users joked that stocking the shelves with real books would be one of the least expensive upgrades the aircraft could receive.
As debate over the new Air Force One continues, it is a reminder that even the smallest details can dominate public attention. While the aircraft itself represents a massive investment and showcases luxury on an extraordinary scale, it is the tiny bookshelf and its unusual collection of identical “Library” books that has become one of the most talked-about features online.
