Trump appears to have another mental fumble and critics pounce: ‘He should be in an assisted living facility

Donald Trump is facing a wave of criticism after a series of confusing and strange public comments, leading many people including experts and political opponents to question whether he’s mentally fit to serve as president.
Most recently, during a talk in the Oval Office about war with Iran, Trump pointed to the Declaration of Independence and said something that made it seem like he thought it was related to the Civil War.
In reality, the Declaration of Independence was written in 1776, during the Revolutionary War, and has nothing to do with the Civil War, which happened in the 1860s. This mix-up caused a storm online, with critics saying he might be suffering from memory issues or worse. Some people even said he should be in an assisted living facility.
This wasn’t the only example. Over the past few weeks, Trump has made several odd or confusing statements. At a graduation speech at West Point, he suddenly started talking about “trophy wives” and the many investigations he faces comments critics called inappropriate and unpresidential. Then, during another speech, he insulted Joe Biden by saying, “He was never the sharpest bulb,” which isn’t a real phrase. People pointed out that he likely meant “not the brightest bulb” or “not the sharpest tool in the shed,” but jumbled them together.
His critics say these are signs of serious mental decline. A communications professor even said Trump often jumps from one idea to another with no clear connection, making his speeches hard to follow. She noted that while Trump likes to present himself as someone who speaks honestly and without a script, it often ends up sounding confused and disorganized.
There were also physical stumbles. At the start of June, Trump nearly tripped while climbing the stairs to Air Force One. That’s something Joe Biden was mocked for in the past, and now people are turning it around on Trump, saying he’s physically and mentally falling apart.
Trump also reshared a bizarre post on his Truth Social account that claimed Joe Biden had been executed and replaced by clones. This conspiracy theory was widely mocked and used as more proof by critics that Trump is out of touch with reality.
Later, Trump attended a performance of Les Misérables and was asked if he related more to the hero Jean Valjean or the villain Javert. He said he didn’t know and asked his wife Melania to answer. Many people, including comedian Stephen Colbert, mocked him, saying it showed he either hadn’t really seen the show or couldn’t remember basic facts about it.
Finally, California Governor Gavin Newsom accused Trump of completely making up parts of a phone call they had about deploying the National Guard. Newsom even said Trump seemed to genuinely believe the made-up version of events, which deeply worried him.
All of these incidents the strange comments, physical stumbles, conspiracy theories, and forgotten facts are adding up. They’re giving his opponents more reasons to say Trump is mentally unfit for the job and should not be trusted with leadership, especially with a potential second term in question.
