Rambling Old Man’: Trump ‘Dementia’ Fears Erupt After Don’s Bizarre Rant About ‘Grass’ During Kennedy Center Honorees Announcement

Donald Trump once again raised questions about his mental sharpness after a shaky and meandering speech during the announcement of this year’s Kennedy Center honorees. Critics on social media quickly revived the nickname “Dementia Don” after the 79-year-old president stumbled through sentences, slurred his speech, and went off-topic in ways that left many people baffled.
At the press event on August 13, Trump introduced the honorees—country singer George Strait, disco star Gloria Gaynor, rock band Kiss, and actors Sylvester Stallone and Michael Crawford. But instead of keeping the focus on them, Trump quickly turned the spotlight on himself. He bragged about his administration’s achievements, promised new renovations at the White House and Kennedy Center, and unveiled what he called his plan to “fix up” Washington, D.C.
Trump described the city as “run down” and promised it would soon be “so beautiful again.” A big part of his plan, he said, was to replace what he called the “old, tired, and exhausted” grass in D.C. parks. “We’ll redo the grass with the finest grasses. I know a lot about grass. I own a lot of golf courses. If you don’t have good grass, you aren’t in business very long,” he declared.
The odd comments didn’t stop there. In the middle of his speech, Trump suddenly called out Senator Lindsey Graham, praising his poll numbers. The camera cut to Graham, who laughed awkwardly while the audience looked confused.
Online reactions were brutal. Social media users said Trump sounded “drunk,” “incoherent,” and “totally unfit.” Many mocked his obsession with grass, while others pointed out the irony by posting photos of unkempt weeds at Ivana Trump’s grave at his Bedminster golf course. Some compared his rambling delivery to a “word salad,” while others speculated he might be overmedicated or struggling with cognitive decline.
This isn’t the first time Trump’s behavior has fueled such concerns. Just last week, he drew attention after reporters caught him pacing across the roof of the White House, claiming he was inspecting it for a future ballroom addition. Days later, he worried supporters with a post on Truth Social warning that “1929” could happen again without his tariffs, apparently confusing history, since economists widely agree tariffs worsened the Great Depression under President Hoover.
Trump’s frequent slip-ups, rambling speeches, and bizarre public moments continue to spark questions about whether he is mentally fit to serve. Far from calming concerns, his latest performance only gave critics more ammunition.
