Donald Trump Just Broke A New Record — And He Won’t Be Happy About It

President Donald Trump is currently facing record-high disapproval from the American public in his second term. A recent survey by Economist/YouGov asked 1,680 adults in the U.S. how they feel about the way Trump is handling his presidency. According to the results, 55% of people said they disapprove of him, while only 41% said they approve. That’s a noticeable shift from just a week earlier, when 53% disapproved and 42% approved.

When Trump began his second term in January, things looked a bit better for him: 49% of people approved of his leadership, and 43% disapproved. But since then, public support has steadily declined. The drop seems to come mainly from Democrats and independent voters. At the beginning of the year, 12% of Democrats gave Trump their approval. Now, that number has fallen all the way down to just 3%. Among independents, approval went from 41% in January to 29% now.

Some of the decline may be tied to recent controversies, including the closure of the Jeffrey Epstein case, which caused backlash—even among Trump supporters. The same survey asked people whether they believe the government is hiding information about Epstein. Among those who voted for Trump in the 2024 election, 59% said they think there’s a cover-up.

This shift in public opinion shows that support for Trump is slipping, and not just from his usual critics. Even people who once supported him are now expressing doubts.
