Americans could receive $1,200 each as update given on Trump’s promise that’s part of new bill

A new plan from Donald Trump’s government could mean that some households in the United States receive up to $1,200.

Right now, many people across the country are struggling because the cost of living keeps going up. Prices for everyday things are rising, and it’s putting pressure on families.

During his second time as president, Trump introduced large tariffs on goods coming into the US to try to support American businesses. But this has had side effects. Companies that depend on products from other countries now have to pay more. For example, items like coffee, which can’t be produced enough within the US, have become more expensive. Businesses are passing these extra costs on to customers, which means people are paying more in shops.

On top of that, the recent conflict involving Iran has added more pressure to the global economy. After tensions with the US and Israel, Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a key route where about 20% of the world’s oil passes through. This caused oil prices to rise sharply and made financial markets more unstable.

Because of all this, a new bill has been suggested that could give some money back to families. This idea was put forward by Martin Heinrich on March 12. His plan is to provide tax rebates to families who have been affected by the tariffs and rising costs.

He explained that many people are already feeling the impact in their daily lives, especially when buying food and household items. The goal of the bill is to return some of that money to those who are now paying more.

The proposal is called the “Tariff Refunds for Working Families Act,” and it has support from other senators, including Cory Booker, Ruben Gallego, and Kirsten Gillibrand.

Trump had earlier talked about giving rebates of up to $2,000, but reports suggest that money might instead go to importers. In contrast, Heinrich’s plan focuses on helping households directly.

The amount people could receive would depend on how much they earn. Lower-income households would get more support. Individuals earning $90,000 or less, or heads of households earning up to $120,000, could receive about $600. Married couples earning up to $180,000 together could get up to $1,200.

There’s also a plan to give an extra $600 for each dependent child in a family.

Another similar bill has been introduced by Henry Cuellar. His version would cover taxpayers earning under $400,000 and would also include extra payments for children.

At the moment, these are just proposals. Nothing has been approved yet. But if the laws pass, some families in the US could start receiving these payments.
