Dozens of mental health experts testify Donald Trump is ‘mentally unstable’ and ‘must be removed’

A group of 36 well-known mental health experts issued a serious warning about Donald Trump, saying they believe he is mentally unfit to serve as president and could be a danger to both America and the rest of the world.
Their statement was officially added to the Congressional Record on April 30 by Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Jack Reed. The warning drew attention because the experts involved came from different political views, religions, and professional backgrounds, yet they all agreed on their concerns about Trump’s mental condition.
The effort was led by Henry David Abraham, a psychiatrist and author who also shared the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize. He said he and several medical professionals felt it was necessary to speak publicly about what they described as the president’s mental instability and the need for him to be removed from office.
Abraham admitted the issue would be highly controversial and difficult to address politically, but said the risks were too serious to stay silent, especially because the president has control over nuclear weapons.
In their letter, the psychiatrists and neurologists claimed Trump has shown signs of worsening cognitive problems. They pointed to moments of confused speech, factual mistakes, and times when he appeared tired or mentally disconnected during important events.
The experts also raised concerns about what they described as unrealistic or exaggerated beliefs, including Trump presenting himself as always right and making unusual public portrayals of himself, such as comparing himself to powerful or mythical figures.
One of the biggest concerns in the letter was the fact that the president controls thousands of nuclear weapons without another official having the power to immediately stop a launch order. The group compared the situation to the final days of Richard Nixon, when Defense Secretary James Schlesinger reportedly took quiet steps to limit Nixon’s access to nuclear launch authority because of concerns about his condition.
The letter stated that if these doctors were officially asked to judge Trump’s ability to carry out his duties under the 25th Amendment, they would conclude that he is not capable of properly handling the responsibilities of the presidency.
The mental health professionals also accused Trump of showing poor judgment, making reckless threats, and displaying obsessive behavior. They mentioned examples such as posting around 150 times on social media in a single night and repeatedly focusing on people he believes are against him.
At the same time, the experts acknowledged that they had not personally examined Trump face-to-face. However, they argued that their years of experience studying mental illness, cognitive decline, and dangerous behavior gave them enough expertise to raise public concern.
In the end, the group warned that they believe Trump’s condition is getting worse quickly and becoming more disconnected from reality. They said leaders in positions of power have a serious responsibility to act before the situation becomes even more dangerous.
